Anna, in the beginning.
Anna was a gift for Sophia's fifth birthday. She was the first "big" knitting project I undertook, and she was met with much love. Perhaps too much love. Suddenly, Sophia had an object with which she could not part. Everywhere she went, so went Anna. And it wouldn't do to even attempt tucking Sophia in at night without Anna by her side. It warms a mama's heart, I tell you, to see a girl taking so much comfort from something that was mama-made.
Being such a source of comfort has taken its toll on Anna. She's seen her fair amount of trials... having been forgotten in the woods, lost in straw mazes, sent floating down the creek. But always she has been lucky enough to find her way back to us. True, she has lost some hair along the way, her colors have faded, her stuffing has bunched, but we weren't quite prepared for this...
It seems her little doll heart has been so filled with love that it burst.
Since suffering this injury, she has been lovingly wrapped in silks and given a permanent spot beside the pillow, so as not to further aggravate her condition. I'm hoping to take her to the crafty ladies at the local yarn shop to see if they can assist in her repair. In the meantime, if any of you wise crafters out there have suggestions on how to stem the unravelling at hand, it sure would be appreciated.
Luckily, this mama was anticipating this day and is hurriedly making ready a replacement. But after having read about that dear rabbit oh so many times, I can't help but worry that the next one won't be loved quite the same.

to pieces
The Velveteen Rabbit has always been a favorite story around here. The thought of a treasured plaything, well-loved and worn threadbare with care has always resonated with me (I still have the teddy bear and blanket that were my childhood favorites). For some reason, none of our children took to any special item as babes.
All of that changed when Anna entered our lives.

Oh no...poor Anna! I wish I could knit now to help you out but alas, no. :(
Maybe sew on a sweet little bib apron....that binds the stitches from further unraveling and adds the worn out by love feeling to her.
Hmm, might be time for a new sweater for Anna. If you can tack the ends of the broken yarn to stop any more unravelling, you might be able to do a partial fix of the hole, threading yarn through the remaining stitches. Not pretty, but you can cover it with a new top for the doll.
I don't know that it is beyond repair. You should be able to go in and pick up the stitches, much the same as you would if they were dropped. You can then reinforce the area with duplicate stitching using yarn of the same color.
Good luck with the repair! I've made repairs by picking up as many of the loose stitches as I could and then tying some extra yarn to the ends and weaving it through. It doesn't look so good but you could cover it as others suggested.
